December 2016 CEFA organized a dissemination conference in relation to the closure of the project “Strengthening Human Rights within Correctional Facilities in Kenya
“. The conference took place at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), and through it, CEFA shared the two years journey of the project development by discussing it from it’s roots, challenges and achievements.
During the conference CEFA shared the project qualitative and quantitative data in order to provide an overview of the activities developed, what was achieved and the various challenges found on the way.
Present at the conference were the director of the Probation Department that was represented by Mary Kangethe, Chrispine Simbiri representative of Faraja, the Swiss ambassador, the EU representative Erik Dhaenens and Silvia Randazzo from IJJO who launched the African Counsel on Juvenile Justice.
It can be said that CEFA planted a seed for a better prison system that does not aim to punish but to rehabilitate
, now prisoners have a way to make their voices heard also through the help of Early Warning Reporting Mechanisms (EWRMs) at national and institutional level.
